My name is Stew

My Story. My Voice

In 1985, at just ten years old, I was sexually abused by a man in my neighbourhood, a trusted primary school teacher and swim coach. In those moments my voice was stolen.

Today, I stand. I speak. I am not a victim.

What Drives Me & Why I Run

I care deeply about our community. I care about social justice and contemporary legislative reform. I believe in building safer, more inclusive spaces where everyone has equitable access to education, healthcare, and the opportunity to thrive.

I believe passionately in the power of movement to help transform and overcome. In my case it's ultra distance running. When I run, I am unencumbered, I think clearly, and I feel that anything is possible. Hope. Not every run is easy, but I always feel better after every run.

Turning Pain Into Purpose

In October 2023, I sat in a Melbourne courtroom devastated and at breaking point.

I would be defined by what happened, but what I did next. I now campaign for stronger sentencing of convicted child sexual abuse offenders. My mission is to give hope to those struggling with the decision to report, to show that justice is possible, no matter how much time has passed.

Why It Matters

Healing begins with truth. Change begins with courage. And justice must be accessible to all. If you're here because you're searching for strength, support, or solidarity, know this: your voice matters. And you're not alone.

I acknowledge and pay my respect to First Australians as the traditional custodians of country throughout Australia and from the lands of the Wurundjeri people on which I live, work and play. I recognise their continuing culture, their contribution and connection to land, waters and community, and pay my respect to elders past, present and emerging. I am committed to being an ally for First Nations peoples. I pledge to remain humble and to actively listen and learn how I can do better.
